Learn about superfoods for women of childbearing age

If we talk about reproductive health in women, one of the vitamins that deserves the most attention is B9 or folic acid. This nutrient can be found in a wide variety of leafy green vegetables, legumes, fruits and seeds. It is so important that external supplementation is even required during the first weeks of pregnancy, in order to avoid malformations in the fetus in the brain and spine.

Before pregnancy it is also necessary for adequate egg production. A superfood that stands out for its high amount of this micronutrient is wheatgrass (1,160 mg in 100 gr). It is also high in chlorophyll, which helps detoxify our body from heavy metals and regulate the menstrual cycle, creating a more conducive environment for conception.

We can consume this food in the so-called green juices, mixing a tablespoon of powder (5 g) in a processor with other vegetables of your choice in a glass of water. We can also find folic acid in other superfoods such as kale (one cup has 76.7 mg, which is between 3 to 4 times more than what an egg contains), maqui, turmeric, ginger, among others. It is also present in chickpeas, lentils, soy, spinach, chard, broccoli, asparagus, arugula, oranges, banana, melon, almonds and pumpkin and marigold seeds.

Another very important nutrient for fertility in women is omega 3, which is an essential fatty acid that we can find in chia seeds, flaxseed and walnuts, with a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. It is also essential to avoid industrialized products (with artificial flavors, colors and preservatives, high in sugar and refined flours), chronic stress and obesity, since it has been shown that they directly affect fertility.
